This is a 2.5 x 3.5 Acrylic Painting on Gessoed Massonite

Painting IV assignment - the use of color for a hyberbolie

I think a lot about American propaganda and the uses back in WWI and WWII and how it's used now, what America is trying to say to it's people and how the two would be meshed. I wrote out a rough artist statement, went a little like this (forgive the spelling errors);

In the 40’s and 50’s, the height of Americanism, propaganda was a very useful tool. With the Government only needing to control news, radio, TV, and posters pushing the idea of “America (and Americans) Under God” was fairly simple. America was a philosophy, an idea, an illusion that worked. Yet today Americans, although not necessarily smarter, are better informed. At least they have access to a more diverse array of different ideas. The generations of the 40’s and 50’s will soon be gone, with a younger generation to take over, a generation that doesn't easily buy into the “America Under God” of their fathers. With a generation as such in control of democracy, will democracy continue on? Or will this next generation fall into power over the country with the ideals that their fathers once held dear, only to succumb to apathy to the beliefs that they once fought to uphold and protect? Either way, we're doomed. God help us.

[edit: Billysue decided that I CANNOT spell, which I already know, so she spellchecked my description, nice, very nice]

This could be a Bush promotional poster. Since he thinks he is God's spokeperson on earth ("Fuck the pope!").
The shadows seem to be incorrect, but fuck that. It's beautiful as it is.

Thanks for the imput. But just so the record is straight, this is in no way talking about Bush the War or anything popular in media about all that. Like my last posts to Suzi9mm I don't like it when the bandwagon is jumped upon. Think for yourselfs people!
Thanks again though.
Oh and about the shadows, you're right, besides the color being off the shapes needed reworking, which I've done, just havn't posted the picture.

The problem is that the mass lacks the talent of subjective individuality. People just can't think for themself and the media and everything around us influences the mass to "do this, do that." It ain't easy, you know.

That's exactly what I'm going for. I had a problem w/ borderline sacreligious. But I don't feel it attacks God at all. It's def. an attack on the masses though.

So what if you attack God (maybe I'm too radical today), it's not even proven he exists.

I have no reason to atack God. Not on this level anyway. I'll be sure to let you know when I do a painting on it though, I don't doubt it's coming.

In my opinion, it seems to have a humerous...and a serious side.
I like it :) !
